Consider seeking out Gary Hustwit's documentary, Helvetica, at film festivals this year, the 50th birthday of Helvetica. For a taste, he has some short clips available.

At the very least, go to the clips section for the above mentioned movie and watch the Wim Crouwel clip. His statements near the end about how the typeface shouldn't interfere with your message fits very well within the discussion that take place here.
